# OpenTelemetry

> Receive Honeydew application events in your observability platform with OpenTelemetry

Honeydew integrates with [OpenTelemetry](https://opentelemetry.io/) (OTel) to send application
events to your observability platform, using the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) for logs.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Honeydew currently supports Datadog and Sentry as destinations. To send events to another
> destination, contact [support@honeydew.ai](mailto:support@honeydew.ai).

## Setup

Configuring a destination requires the **Admin** role.

1. Go to **Settings** → **Integrations**, and add an **OpenTelemetry** destination.
2. Enter a name for the destination, for example `datadog`.
3. Enter the **Endpoint** and **Auth headers** for your destination:

   | Destination | Endpoint | Auth headers |
   | - | - | - |
   | Datadog | `https://otlp.<site>`, where `<site>` is your Datadog site, such as `datadoghq.com` or `us3.datadoghq.com` | `dd-api-key=<API key>` |
   | Sentry | `https://o<org id>.ingest.us.sentry.io/api/<project id>/integration/otlp` (`ingest.de` for the EU region) | `x-sentry-auth=sentry sentry_key=<public key>` |

The endpoint is the OTLP intake base URL, over `https`, without `/v1/logs`. Separate several
   headers with commas.
4. Save. Events start reaching the destination within 5 minutes.

An organization can have up to 5 destinations, and each one receives every event.

## Security and privacy

* Events are exported only to destinations an Admin configures.
* Events carry metadata only. Question text, answers, and generated SQL are never sent.
* Auth headers are stored as a secret, and are masked when you view a destination.
* Endpoints are limited to the Datadog and Sentry intakes listed above.
